It’s been a busy week here at SMOKESCREEN! The AUSSIE ASH campaign has kicked off to a fantastic start with enough letter packs ready to go to keep us sending one a day until at least the end of this month. All this without a single mail out from a vendor yet. Awesome!
I also received a response from the Victorian Department of Health. It’s exactly what I was expecting, but it also points out quiet a few flaws in their current thinking. A response has been prepared and will be sent out on Monday.
So what else is new this week?
Both the Federal and State Health Departments in Australia recommend using “approved” cessation methods such as Champix, Zyban and Nicorette products. Read why Dr Michael Siegal thinks this could be a very bad thing for e-cig users.
Last week the results from the public consultion on the EU Tobacco Products Directive. The results were not what the anti-tobacco lobby would have liked and they are claiming that “special interest groups” skewed the results. Sound familiar? The exact same thing happened here with the petition to give Australia an R rating for video games.
Simon Clark talks about the problems with Big Pharma on his blog, while Dick Puddlecote muses about the confusion electronic cigarettes provide to the anti-tobacco groups.
This week also saw the American CDC (Centre for Disease Control) put their foot right in it with a bold faced lie and Florida is considering banning all flavoured tobacco products. Why? Cause only kids like flavours, it couldn’t possibly by that adults like them too.
Finally the best news of the week: A survey of over 3000 electronic cigarettes users confirmed what we already knew – electronic cigarettes can, and do, work as a cessation aid.

We will have more information on the next steps for the AUSSIE ASH campaign over coming days, so until then, keep vaping!
